Nigel and Stephen Duncan

On 1st April, 1992, Nigel Duncan saved two young girls (his sisters) from their burning house in Mountcharles, Co. Donegal, while his brother Stephen Duncan raised the alarm and assisted their mother.

Nigel Duncan was awarded a Gold Medal and Certificate of Bravery and Stephen Duncan was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Liam Halpin

On 25th March, 1988, Liam Halpin entered the River Liffey at Frank Sherwin Bridge, Dublin to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Liam Halpin was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Garda Patrick Sheridan Garda William Quinn

On 31st August, 1991, Garda Patrick Sheridan Garda William Quinn entered Lisanisk Lane just outside Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan in an attempt to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water and unfortunately died.

Garda Patrick Sheridan Garda William Quinn were each awarded a Certificate of Bravery.

 

Justin McCabe

On 20th June, 1992, Justin McCabe entered the Grand Canal in Puttaghen, Tullamore, Co. Offaly to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Justin McCabe was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Jonathan Fletcher and Garda Noel Curry

On 29th May, 1992, Jonathan Fletcher and Garda Noel Curry entered the River Suir at Rice Bridge, Waterford City to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Jonathon Fletcher and Garda Noel Curry were each awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Garda Gerry McDermott and Garda Declan Hunt

On 21st November, 1992, Garda Gerry McDermott and Garda Declan Hunt entered a burning flat at the Square, Roscommon to rescue eight teenagers.

Garda Gerry McDermott and Garda Noel Hunt were each awarded a Certificate of Bravery.

 

Garda Bernard Ferry, Garda Enda Connolly, Garda Alan Breen, Fireman David Hughes, Fireman David Bell, Garda Brendan McNicholas, Fireman Peter O’Connell, Stephen McCabe and Declan Bolger

On 24th December, 1991, Garda Bernard Ferry, Garda Enda Connolly, Garda Alan Breen, Fireman David Hughes, Fireman David Bell, Garda Brendan McNicholas, Fireman Peter O’Connell, Stephen McCabe and Declan Bolger assisted in the rescuing of a woman who was in difficulties in the Grand Canal approximately 100 yards from Portobello Bridge, Dublin.

Garda Enda Connolly and David Fireman Hughes were each awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

Garda Bernard Ferry, Garda Alan Breen, Fireman David Bell, Fireman McNicholas, Fireman O’Connell,  Stephen McCabe and Declan Bolger were each awarded a Certificate of Bravery.

On 10th May, 1992, Garda Michael Whelan entered the River Liffey at City Quay, Dublin 2 to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda Michael Whelan was awarded a Certificate of Bravery.

On 21st July 1992, Karen Fox (who was 11 at the time) assisted two children to shore after a drowning accident at Lough Lene, Collinstown, Co. Westmeath.

Andrew Coster

On 14th November, 1992, Andrew Coster entered a burning house in Mountainview Drive, Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow to rescue a 2 year old baby.

Andrew Coster was awarded a Silver Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Ivan Knox and Brendan Catterson

On 20th July, 1992, Ivan Knox and Brendan Catterson assisted in the rescuing of a woman from a burning car that had been in a road accident on the road from Stranorlar to Killgordon, Co. Donegal.

Ivan Knox and Brendan Catterson were each awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate.

On 3rd June, 1992, Garda Patrick Higgins entered the River Barrow in Athy, Co. Kildare to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda Patrick Higgins was awarded a Silver Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

On 21st March, 1993, Garda Martin T. Coleman entered the sea at Moville Pier, Donegal to rescue a woman who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda Martin T. Coleman was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Hazel Kingsley

On 25th May, 1993, Hazel Kingsley entered the River Lee by Merchants Quay, Cork to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Hazel Kingsley was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Sgt. Martin Pepper, Private Noel Corr and Private Robert Byrne

On 4th August, 1993, Sgt. Martin Pepper, Private Noel Corr and Private Robert Byrne assisted in the rescue of a man who was in difficulties in the River Liffey at Church Street, Dublin.

Private Noel Corr was awarded a Silver Medal and Certificate of Bravery while Sgt. Martin Pepper and Private Robert Byrne were each awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Patrick Kelly

On 15th December, 1991, Patrick Kelly assisted in the rescue a girl who had been trapped in a house fire in Ballyphehane, Cork.

Patrick Kelly was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Philip Scallan and Liam Cullen

On 14th June, 1993, Liam Cullen assisted Philip Scallan who had entered the River Barrow by Montgomery Street, Carlow to rescue a woman who was in difficulties in the water.

Philip Scallan was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certifiacte of Bravery and Liam Cullen was awarded a Letter of Commendation.

On 6th January, 1993, Garda Thomas Barber entered the River Liffey at Wood Quay, Dublin to rescue a woman who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda Thomas Barber was awarded a Silver Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Michael Bruen

On 20th December, 1993, Michael Bruen entered the sea at Sandymount Strand, Dublin to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Michael Breun was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

On 27th July, 1993, Garda Mark O’Gorman and Garda Cormac Jevens entered the sea at Strand Road, Bray, Co. Wicklow to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda Mark O’Gorman and Garda Cormac Jevens were each awarded a Certificate of Bravery.

 

Garda Walter Sweeney and Patrick McGovern

On 27th September, 1993, Garda Walter Sweeney and Patrick McGovern entered the Grand Canal at Suir Bridge, Kilmainham, Dublin to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda Walter McSweeney and Patrick McGovern were each awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Garda Leslie Rice

On 24th January, 1994, Garda Leslie Rice entered the River Lee at Kyrl’s Quay, Cork to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda Rice was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Martin Buckley, Garda T. J. Ryan and Garda T. McGlinchey

On 17th December, 1993, Garda T.J. Ryan and Garda T. McGlinchey assisted Martin Buckley who entered the River Lee at Wellington Bridge, Cork to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Martin Buckley was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery, while Garda T. J. Ryan and Garda T. McGlinchey were each awarded a Letter of Commendation.

 

Garda Brendan Ruan and Garda Michael Costigan

On 22nd May, 1994, Garda Michael Costigan assisted Garda Brendan Ruane who had entered the River Blackwater in Ballyduff, Co. Waterford to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda Ruane was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery and Garda Costigan was awarded a Letter of Commendation.

 

Pat Murphy and William Murphy

On 8th February, 1994, Pat Murphy (Padraig Ó Murchu) and his father William Murphy (Liam Ó Murchu) assisted in the rescue of a man who had been in difficulties in the River Barrow at Graiguecullen Bridge, Carlow.

Pat Murphy was awarded a Certificate of Bravery and William Murphy was awarded a Letter of Commendation.

 

Colm Reilly

On 22nd May, 1994, Colm Reilly entered the River Boyne at Slane Bridge, Co. Meath to rescue a man who had been trapped inside the cab of a lorry that had crashed into the river.

Colm O’Reilly was awarded a Silver Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Peter Laing

On 8th March, 1992, Peter Laing entered the Clydagh River in Turlough, Co. Mayo to rescue a three year old boy who was in difficulties in the water. He also assisted in the resuscitation of both the boy and his five year old sister who had previously been brought out from the river.

Peter Laing was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Odhran Lawlor

On 26th March, 1994, Odhran Lawlor entered the River Liffey at Eden Quay, Dublin to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Odhran Lawlor was awarded a Silver Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Harry McEnteggart

On 22nd April, 1994, Harry McEnteggart assisted in the rescue of a boy who had been set on fire after he had accidentally spilt petrol on his clothes in Greenacres, Dundalk.

Harry McEnteggart was awarded a Bronze Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Garda John Horgan

On 22nd November, 1993, Garda John Horgan entered the River Shannon near St. Mary’s Park, Limerick in an attempt to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water who unfortunately subsequently was drowned.

Garda John Horgan was awarded a Certificate of Bravery.

 

 Garda John O’Sullivan

On 25th July, 1994, Garda John O’Sullivan entered the River Shannon near the Henry Street Garda Station,  Limerick to rescue a man who was in difficulties in the water.

Garda John O’Sullivan was awarded a Silver Medal and Certificate of Bravery.

 

Hugh Rooney

On 12th January, 1993, Hugh Rooney was able to disarm a person with psychiatric problems who was at the time armed with a double barrelled shotgun.

Hugh Rooney was awarded a Silver Medal and Certificate of Bravery.
